I don't know why you talk such [removed, brian]! The site is full of rubbish and false information.

For instance. The Lancashire Union Railway - "The reason behind it was to give access from Wigan to Garston Docks and Widnes, on one side, and to East Lancashire on the other".

Was it f***! It bypassed Wigan! Read the Act!

And why put history of other places on a 'Wigan' history site?

Tonker rather than being so facetious why not join up and impart some of your knowledge upon the site. Where on the site does it say that it is specifically Wigan as a township. It is Wigan and the surrounding townships which now unfortunately make up the borough of Wigan. It would be a bit of a poor address if you were to put www.wiganandthesurroundingareahistory.co.uk. Also it would be wrong to say the Wigan Borough history site as we all know the Wigan borough is an administrative area and has little history. If we can't keep you happy with the web address you've drawn your own conclusions already that it should be focused just on the township. Sadly the greater public know the generic area as Wigan due to the administrative changes that happened in the local government act hence it being labeled Wigan History.

Tonker the above quote used was from a well respected local historian if you have issues with what is put take it up with the family of Donald Anderson. If we are being pedantic lines from Wigan linked into the LUR so the LUR would have infact given Wigan access to Garston docks if indirectly. As a site we want to show that the administrative area of Wigan is actually rich in history but just not in the borough form. Whether that be the township of Wigan or Standish or anywhere else for that matter. Like I've said you'd be more than welcome to contribute to the site if you had anything constructive you can add whether it be in the township of wigan or Ashton or the list goes on. In fact a piece about the townships that now make up the Wigan Borough including boundaries etc would not go a miss.I'm afraid we'll just have to agree to disagree like is usually the case with any topic linking to Tonker. If anyone else wishes to contribute please do as there aren't enough people in the North West who talk about history and share their knowledge.

Just want to clarify I'm not in the "Wigan is Great camp". I personally like industrial history and as it happens at this time to live in Orrell. Really I'm a midlander again an area rich in industrial history. Hopefully the stuff I post will be of reasonable accuracy. As you have pointed out however without going back to the primary sources of information inaccuracies may occur through others interpretations.
